Potentiostat & Galvanostat PG 2.0

The “Potentiostat & Galvanostat PG 2.0” is an electronic device that can be used both as a potentiostat and as a galvanostat. It is required for many measurements in ionics, conventional electrochemistry and other areas of work.

The potentiostat controls with high precision the electrical potential of an electrode (working or measuring electrode WE) in relation to a second electrode through which no current flows (reference or potential electrode RE). A third electrode (counter or current electrode CE) supplies the current required to adjust the potential at the working electrode (WE).

The electrical current and the voltage between the working and counter electrodes are measured. The response speed to achieve the desired voltage and to follow changes in the system is exceptionally high (> 106V/s).

Connecting the reference electrode RE and the counter electrode CE makes it possible to use the potentiostat as a 2-electrode voltage generator.

The galvanostat controls the current between the working electrode WE and the counter electrode CE. The two voltages between the working and reference electrodes and the working and counter electrodes are measured.

In addition, the device can be used as an electrometer with high impedance (> 1012Ohm) can be used to measure the voltage between the working and reference electrodes and as a resistance-free ammeter between the working electrode WE and its shielding.

Potential and current are adjusted by two potentiometers connected in series, each from -2 to 2 V and from -0.1 to 0.1 A. These signals can be superimposed by applying an external voltage (e.g. from a battery) with any time dependence (e.g. periodic signal) and amplitude (max 10 V total).

BNC outputs are available for the current and the two voltages between the working electrode and the reference and counter electrodes on the front panel. In addition, an output for computers and recorders is installed on the back of the device, which allows the current and voltages to be measured and adjusted.
